Holiday Season

It’s here! Our entire little town is covered in a white fluffy blanket of snow, and the townsfolk couldn’t be merrier!! This time of year is so magical in Stowe. I’d say 90% of our businesses in town are decorated with lights, yes 90%! Do you know we don’t have any chains in Stowe? Okay, we have a Subway (inside a gas station) and a Dunkin’ Donuts (inside another gas station), and that is it. The McDonald’s went out of business when my husband was in high school - so that was a verrrry long time ago…lol. So the whole “shop small Saturday” really is a big deal for us - because every single store in town is owned by a small business owner!

We went to a party up at the Mountain tonight, and up there as well - magic. Purely magical. The skating rink, the lights, the trees, and let’s not forget the slopes. I love it. I love the ambiance of the Mountain. Which reminds me, since my last blog post, I’ve taken up skiing!! I mean, I live in a ski town (have been here 15 years now) and never skied before in my life. I might as well take advantage of where I live and these loooong winters, right!? I’m also learning so I’m able to go to the mountain with my family and all go skiing together. My husband is a hockey player thru and thru and usually wants nothing to do with skiing, but he’s happy we can all ski together as well. I don’t skate either (I was meant to live in the south), so I’m always sitting on the bench watching my family have fun on the ice. SO happy to be skiing now, and LOVING it AND looking so forward to being up there as a family!

We have some exciting new things in the store this week - Thornback & Peel which is a company based in the UK, and we’re 1 of only 7 stores in North America to carry them! They have beautiful bird patterns, chicken patterns and more, of oven mitts, tea towels, aprons and more. You’ll have to check them out. https://www.countrystorevt.com/inthekitchen/tea-towels

For those of you that follow along on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/countrystoreonmain/) stay tuned for another giveaway we’re doing soon! Will be announced this week!

Cozy, Snuggly Bed

When it starts to get cold in Vermont, everyone comes out of the woodwork and wants to talk about their bedding. Maybe because in the Summer the last thing we want to do is be covered by our sheets and blankets, yet when the weather turns, we turn for those covers!

I’ll tell you what’s on my bed, year round. We sleep on Libeco Linen Sheets in the Summer, and at the turn of the weather this year I put on Coyuchi’s Cloud Brushed Flannel sheets. There’s a reason they’re one of Oprah’s Favorite Things. They are heeeeeavenly and so warm, don’t pill, they stay put on the bed and don’t get all mushed up in the middle. They wash so well are so nice and thick. These may be on my bed until July, haha!

Next layer is a staple on our bed, year-round. Traditions Linens Louisa Coverlet. When I tell you I’m obsessed with this, I’ve never been more serious in my life, lol. This blanket, well, Coverlet is the best. It’s machine washable, holds up to my kids, my dog and my big burly husband. It still looks brand new after numerous washes and plenty of dryer time. I LOVE this thing; and they come in 5 colors - White, Linen, Ivory, Charcoal, and Mist. I’d say they are included in probably 75% of the special orders for Bedding we do in the store.

Next layer is our Duvet. I have an All Year Weight Synthetic Down Duvet on our bed now. It’s the 'base level’ of our supplier’s Duvets and I’ve been so beyond impressed with this Duvet. I remember one time a lady coming in the store whom had just purchased one of their Siberian White Goose Down Duvets. We had a store full of people and when I asked her how she was liking it, she responded “well, I have a problem”, and I thought “oh no!!" She responded with “I never want to get out of bed!” Phew! The Duvets truly give you the lightness you desire with the warmth you crave. And the Baffled Box Construction on all of their blankets keep all of the fill in place.

It’s almost Thanksgiving!!!! My fave time of year is at our fingertips! The hustle and bustle, the lights going up all over our quaint little town and the ever falling snow just makes everything so wonderful. I have lots of family coming to our house for Thanksgiving - I LOVE cooking cooking - all. day. long. If you follow me on Instagram, you hear that alot :)

We’re having a special sale for Black Friday this year - buy 1 Dash & Albert Rug; get another 1 at 50% off! Perfect time to spruce up your home for all the company that will be arriving. Off to make Tacos for my family - Happy Tuesday folks!!

Leaf Peepin'

Today was an iconic, traditional fall day here in Vermont - what is fall like where you live? People are going crazy for our little town this weekend, there must’ve been 25 people at the Covered Bridge near our house today. Crazy! Yes, we get to drive over that quaint little bridge everyday, peeps! They look at you in awe as you drive over the bridge while they’re snapping away. Driving down Main Street there was a crowd in front of the Church next door to us, yes, a crowd. It truly makes me feel super special that I get to call this place home. I’ve known for 15 years now that I love it here, but every year at this time I “fall” just a little more in love :) No but really, if you haven’t visited Vermont in the fall - it is a MUST. There is no other place I rather be this time of year! Ask me again in February….and well, I’ll probably say “take me to the beach!!!”.

We spent today at a soccer tournament, and then we had a Thanksgiving dinner at my family’s house. A little early? Maybe. But why not? Tomorrow we have flag football and that is it. I will be home doing laundry after that and sorting our winter clothes for the upcoming season. What fits, what will get donated and what will get handed down….it’s a job I dread every year, but it must get done!

I’m thinking of baking an apple pie tomorrow too….Sundays are perfect for cooking, and as the weather gets colder I cook more and more. Follow along on Instagram to see the end result!

Happy Fall, y’all!!

August 1st

August?  What?!  August 1st always reminds me that it's time to almost start thinking of Pumpkin Spice Lattes (and I only say that because you hear about them and see them everywhere, I don't actually LIKE them), pumpkins, apples, cider, falling leaves, tall boots, sweaters and more.  Oh, how I love fall.  I DO love sweaters, boots, and falling leaves though!  Fall in Vermont is simply breath-taking.  The mountains light up and look like they're on fire.  The sunsets get even more beautiful and the weather is *fingers crossed* usually spectacular.  Our busy Main Street is bustling with "leaf peepers" hopping on and off the bus, strolling up and down the street, cameras in hand and ready to capture the perfect shot.  Being right next door to the most photographed Church in New England definitely has it's perks - and Fall is one of them.  The crisp white steeple up against a backdrop of golden hues is spectacular.

We've had a great summer at the store, and we turned 2 on June 10th!  We have visitors from all walks of life from all over the world, and I love meeting each and every one of them.  I wish I was in the store 7 days a week; I often think about all the things I'm missing out on when I'm not there.  However, when I'm there, I'm ALWAYS thinking about what I'm missing out on at home; with my family, my children.  It's been a real struggle for sure, to balance life and work.  I'm always working, as we ALL are these days.  We have the tip of the world in our hands and at our fingertips, so we're always quickly replying to emails, texts, etc.   Heck, I placed most of my Christmas orders while out at the lake today.  BUT - I often tell myself, in 10 years my kiddos will be teenagers and have full calendars of social events some of which Mom and Dad will be invited to and some of which we will not.  My STORE, however, will still be there, waiting for my full attention.  I'll gladly work 7 days a week!  I love my store, I love everything about it; but I don't want to regret 'not spending enough time with my children while they were younger' someday.

The kids are in bed and I have a few last orders to finish up, I'll write again soon.

Jumping in to the World of Blogging

Why, hello there world!  People often ask me where I get my motivation from for my Instagram page, and how do I know what to say on there.  Truth is, I just talk.  I type as I just talk, and at the end I wrap it up with a "goodnight folks" or something along that line.  Basically, that's what I'm going to do here, is just talk!  I just turned 37, am a Mom of 2, a wife and a business owner.  That's my life in a nutshell.  Just about everything I do throughout my day falls under one of those categories.  I'm snuggling *mom*, I'm re-ordering for the gadget wall *business owner* or I'm talking real estate with my husband *wifey*.

Graham and I met in 2004 while he was playing professional hockey and I was working at Planet Dog in Portland, Maine.  Boy, those were some fun years - young, carefree, and nothing to worry about except what we were going to do that night for dinner.  Of course getting paid to be an athlete is always a heavy weight on your shoulders but he loved every second of it, spending his days at the rink and his afternoons playing video games with his teammates.  The good ol' days!

Jump ahead a few years, and here we are living in Stowe, Vermont, raising our 2 awesome kiddos, loving our life in the mountains.  An opportunity came along to purchase a beautiful storefront on Main Street in our quaint little town so we jumped on it.  It's not often something comes for sale on our little street, and I'm so proud to have brought our building back to life!

It's 7am and time to get the kids going for school - so, until next time friends!
