The Country Store on Main is located on Stowe’s historic Main Street, two doors down from the most photographed church in New England!

The Story

When Cristina’s husband retired from professional hockey in 2014, they made his hometown of Stowe, Vermont,  their home.  It was here that Cristina fell in love with the old run down building that used to house “Lackey’s General Store”. Lackey’s was an old-fashioned Vermont country store that sold film, magazines, and a meeting place where folks who enjoyed the soda fountain would gather for over 50 years. Cristina had always dreamed of owning her own warm, welcoming, and cheerful store filled with bright and unique gifts along with simply her favorite things. The building came up for sale, and those dreams came true. After a conscious and respectful restoration, the doors to The Country Store on Main opened on June 10, 2016.  A handwritten note of best wishes from Mrs. Lackey still hangs on the wall by the cash register.  

Cristina curates products that embrace the comfort of the Vermont lifestyle with a chic twist. She believes a home needs to provide function and comfort without sacrificing on quality and design. Anything you may need, from kitchen essentials to towels & linens or travel accessories - Cristina finds the best of the best and brings them home to Vermont for you to experience and enjoy! The Country Store on Main embraces the old general store spirit and keeps the tradition of finding almost anything you need on Main Street alive.

The Name

"People ask me often where I came up with the name “The Country Store on Main”.  A couple days after we closed on the building, I was having lunch at a cafe here on Main Street, and saw a photograph underneath shellac on the counter top.  If you look closely, it says "Country Store - Stowe, VT About 1860".  That’s our building!  How cool!!  It's like someone was telling me this is what the name should be....again!  I added a bit of a modern feel with the "on Main" part, but I just felt like "The Country Store on Main" belonged from the first time I said it under my breath, while sitting there eating my sandwich. Sure, we're not truly a country store like other country stores in Vermont. But at most country stores you can get just about anything. And at CSOM, you're able to get just about anything, for anyone in your family!
