Inspired by the geometry of Toorji's Step Well in Jodhpur, this pillow is block printed by hand in a beautiful shade of brown.
The process begins with the carving of the wooden blocks, each one shaped by hand. From there, dyes are mixed and the printing begins, a craft that remains unmatched in the world of block printing and one that first captivated John Robshaw on his earliest trip to India.
There’s a quiet, almost meditative rhythm in the workshop. Printers move back and forth along long tables, passing each other with ease as they pin the fabric, set dye trays, and brush each block clean before dipping it again. With every pass, the pattern begins to emerge, layer by layer, with a sense of time you can feel in the finished cloth.
Remove insert. Machine wash cold, separately, delicate cycle. Tumble dry low. Do not bleach. Iron at medium setting if necessary.
